What happens after I scan a card?

Understand the scan flow from photo to card being saved

Here's exactly what happens from the moment you take a photo to the card appearing in your collection.

1. AI identification (1-3 seconds)

Your photo is sent to Cubbby's AI, which reads all visible text on the card: player name, year, set, card number, and any variant or parallel information. If you captured the back of the card too, both images are analyzed together.

2. Multi-source search (2-5 seconds)

Cubbby searches multiple sources simultaneously to find your card:

  • Card catalog, our internal database of cards across all sports and sets
  • Live market data, real sale prices from actual transactions across major platforms

Results start appearing as each source responds, so you'll see matches populating in real-time.

3. You select a match

The top matches are shown ranked by confidence. Each match displays:

  • Card name, year, and set
  • Current market value based on recent sales
  • Grade-specific pricing (if available)
  • Card image for visual confirmation

Scroll through the results to find the exact match for your card.

4. Review and save

Before saving, you can customize the details:

  • Grade: set it to Raw, PSA 10, BGS 9.5, etc.
  • Purchase price: what you paid for the card (for tracking profit/loss)
  • Binder: optionally assign it to a binder
  • Notes: add any personal notes

Tap Add to Collection to save. The card immediately appears in your inventory and contributes to your portfolio value.

If no match is found

If Cubbby can't find an exact match, you can:

  • Add the back photo for more identifying information
  • Search manually. Tap "Add manually" and search by player name + year
  • Report the issue. Help us improve our catalog by flagging missing cards
